Dime Museum

from by Wolf Saxon

Dime museum penny rides
China dolls blink their glassy eyes
In the silvery light
The moon cracks its hollow shell
Carousel, Ferris wheel burn
Holes in the night

Cloud swing angels fill the sky
With tinsel halo smiles
The devil-baby starts to cry
In the silvery light

Now the baby in the jar
Wakes up drowning
The anatomical wonder's dancing
On its one leg (if one can call it so)
While the world's on its knees
Sifting dimes in the snow

Old Father Leech is sleeping
Disembodied floating hearts
Are beating still
On Sisyphus' Hill
Dream strange caterpillar
Dream strange butterfly
In halls of mirrors dream
Dreams within dreams

The magpie wears a silver crown
In The gallows tree
Perched upon a blackened bough
Counting fallen leaves

Go prepare the feast
See the fires are lit
Nail him to the floor
He's starting to kick
Let us dine on flesh
Hang the sign on the door
Spare his bones for the dogs
And a dime for the poor
